Temporomandibular Joint Therapy (TMJ)
The World Health Organisation states that 1 in 4 people suffer TMJ Syndrome!
Having trained with several different experts in this field, I am able to offer a number of potential solutions to this crippling problem. Over the years I have trained with Ron Phelan and The O-Lab, Tracey Kiernan from TMJ Therapy®, and Timothy King from Functional NeuromyoFascial Technique.
What is TMJ?
The Temporomandibular Joint is the joint that connects your mandible (your lower jawbone) to your skull and is the most used joint in your body (think eating, talking, and breathing!).
What are the symptoms of TMJ Dysfunction?
- TMJ dysfunction, disorder, syndrome or pain is often referred to as the “hidden imposter” due to its ability to mimic symptoms of many other musculoskeletal problems, so do not think only about your head, neck or face.
TMJ dysfunction can be responsible for symptoms such as:
- Headaches
- Limited opening of the mouth (Trismus)
- Tinnitus
- Clenching of the jaw or teeth grinding (Bruxism)
- Tooth pain
- Ear ache
- Dizziness or Vertigo
- The sensation of ‘a lump’ or ‘glop’ in the throat.
- Hip pain
- Back pain
- Breathing issues
- Postural issues
How will my TMJ problem be addressed?
Holistically! As with my approach to anything, it is so important to look at you and your body as a whole and not isolated parts. Therefore, TMJ sessions are no different to anything I do, there would highly likely be treatment, exercises, and stretches for the whole body. Therefore, not only aimed at dealing with the pain, but also the root cause.
Can I still access help and treatment if I can’t get to you in person?
Yes! No problem! Just because you cannot get to the clinic in person, does not stop me potentially being able to help you and you have a range of options available.
Following my training with Tracey Kiernan, I am a qualified, insured, and licensed TMJ Therapy® Practitioner and I can offer bespoke online consultations to not only assess your problems but using the TMJSOS® programme (TMJ Therapy Self-help Online System®) supervise and guide you through this self-help therapy.
Using a series of videos and exercises purchased direct from TMJSOS® (please contact me for the link and further instructions) this pioneering approach to the treatment of TMJ pain and dysfunction offers you help without leaving the comfort of your own home.
